Our Approach

We’re dedicated to providing the highest level of care and support for young people

Our Approach

Emotional and behavioural Support

Many of the children in our care have experienced trauma, neglect, or challenging circumstances. We understand that emotional well-being is the foundation for a child’s development, and our services are designed to provide both immediate and long-term support for their emotional health.

behavioural Interventions

Provide positive behavior management strategies, we help children manage their emotions, build resilience, and develop appropriate coping mechanisms. We focus on rewarding positive behaviors and encouraging personal growth, rather than punitive measures.

Educational Assistance

We recognise the importance of education as a key component of a young person’s development. Our team works closely with local schools and education professionals to ensure that every child receives the educational support they need to thrive academically.

Personal Education Plans (PEPs)

Every child in our care has a customised educational plan developed in collaboration with their school, social workers, and parents. This plan outlines specific educational goals and milestones tailored to their unique needs

Homework Support

Our staff is available to assist children with their studies, ensuring they stay on track academically and have access to resources like books, computers, and study materials.

School Attendance

We work closely with schools and ensure continuity of education, even for children who may have had unstable educational experiences in the past. For those excluded or unable to attend school, we arrange for home tutoring.

Health and Wellbeing Support

Maintaining good health—both physical and mental—is a priority at West Valley Home. We ensure that all children receive regular health check-ups and are supported in developing healthy lifestyle habits.

Medical Care

We arrange routine medical appointments, including GP visits, dental check-ups, and any specialist services required. Each child’s healthcare needs are documented in their Individual Health Care Plan, which is regularly updated to ensure their needs are met.

Nutrition and Exercise

Meals at West Valley Home are balanced and nutritious, and children are encouraged to participate in meal planning and preparation. We also promote physical activity through sports, outdoor play, and organised trips to ensure children remain active and healthy.

Life Skills and Independence Training

As part of our commitment to helping children grow into independent and responsible young adults, we offer life skills training tailored to each child’s age and abilities.

Semi-Independent Living Program

For older children nearing adulthood, we have a dedicated space designed to help them practice independent living skills, such as budgeting, cooking, and managing their time.

Daily Responsibilities

Children are encouraged to take on responsibilities around the home, from keeping their personal spaces tidy to participating in communal tasks like setting the table for meals and helping with laundry.

Social and Communication Skills

We work with children to help them build essential social and communication skills, enabling them to form positive relationships with their peers, family members, and the wider community.
